After couple of revisits to Wolfram|Alpha, I am starting to get addict to try to ask all sort of questions during my spare time. Before there was Jeeves to talk to, but after Jeeves RIP’ed in 2006, search engine is all about business and serious data mining.
If you are not familiar with Wolfram|Alpha, here’s a short definition came from Wikipedia:
Wolfram|Alpha is an answer engine developed by Wolfram Research. It is an online service that answers factual queries directly by computing the answer from structured data, rather than providing a list of documents or web pages that might contain the answer as a search engine might.
It’s a breed of Semantic web, “the next generation of World Wide Web” where our Internet world will transform from a web of content into a web of data.
Essentially, Wolfram|Alpha is a computer that tell you the answer from mathematics calculation, history to general knowledge… pretty cool huh? If you still feel dubious, try the following questions yourself:
- What is half of a quarter?
- What is current temperature in Melbourne?
- Who is the 35th president of USA?
- Compare Microsoft’s and Google’s stock
- What is the meaning of life?
If you now find yourself enjoy talking to Wolfram|Alpha, share your questions that you asked and gave interesting results. I’ll also keep updating the questions and keep a PDF copy of the result as I go.
